Auction FAQ
Please find listed below some answers to many questions that you might have about our auction. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to call us at (859) 873-5122.
Pre Auction Questions
- How and where do I donate items? Call the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce office at (859) 873-5122 or bring your item to the office at 141 North Main Street, Versailles, KY.
- Can my items for donation be picked up? Yes, call the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce office at (859) 873-5122 to make arrangements to have your item picked up.
- Are my donations tax deductible? Yes, the retail value of the items that you donate are tax deductible.
- Are my purchases tax deductible? Only the amount above retail value that you may pay for the item is tax deductible.
- Where do the proceeds of the auction go? The proceeds of the auction go toward tourist activities, events, and day-to-day operations of the Woodford County Chamber of Commerce.
- Do I have to be a chamber member to donate an item to the auction? No, the Chamber of Commerce takes this opportunity to familiarize all businesses with one of the benefits of being a chamber member.
- When do I need to have my item turned in? Your items should be donated the first week of November so that we will have time to photograph and catalog the item and post it on our web site and for some promotional materials.
- When will my item be posted on the web? Items are posted on our web site as soon possible after your item is picked up if we have all of the information.
- What information for advertising my business can I include? Your business name is mentioned both on the web site as well as each time your item is mentioned on air during the auction. For the hourly items, the items are highlighted during that hour only. For the Super Bid Board, your item will be featured on the auction throughout the day.
- Where will my donated item be placed within the auction? Items with a retail value under $30.00 are not guaranteed to be featured on the telecast of the auction, these items may instead be placed on a web based auction site instead. Items with a retail value of $30.00 or more will be on the telecast of the auction. Your item will be placed in the most appropriate hour in the auction to best represent your business Items over $300.00 value or unique items may be placed on the Super Bid Board.
- What ways can I help prior to the auction? First and foremost you can donate an item to the auction whether you are a member or not. In addition, you can volunteer to help with on one of the different committees - item collection, phones, food, and more. Auction Day Questions
- How do I bid? You may call the auction phone number the day of the auction or you can pre bid anytime on our auction web site as the items are posted.
- How can I view the auction? Time Warner cable's local channel 6 will carry our auction live or you may view the updated bid information displayed on our auction web site.
- What time does the auction start? The auction starts at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 2nd, 2007.
- Where can I find a list of items and a schedule of when they will appear? The items are listed on the auction web site, Woodford Sun, and the chamber newsletter.
- Where do I go to pick up my item? Items must be picked up at the Woodford
County High School the day of the auction. Anything not picked up that day may not be held for you.
- How can I pay for my item? Items may be paid for with cash or check. Visa and MasterCard payments will be accepted on the day of the auction only.
- When is the bidding over on items? Bidding usually stops at the end of the hour. There is a two minute warning bell and a final bell at the end of that time period. If you have started placing a bid you may finish that bid only. Any further bids, new phone calls, or bids on the internet after the bell has rung will not be accepted.
- How will I know if my bid was the high bidder? The winning bidders will be announced approximately 20 minutes after the hour ends or soon thereafter so that we may have time to confirm all of the winning bids. Because there are 10 phone lines and the web site, bidding there is no way to determine who the winning bidder is at the actual end of the hour.
- What ways can I help the day of the auction? You can volunteer to answer phones, food pickup, item holding areas, and more. Contact the chamber at (859) 873-5122 for more information.
